We reported earlier this month about secret
Surrey County Council plans to make every secondary school in Surrey have academy status. During an interview on the BBC website Council leader Dr Andrew Povey proclaimed that he didn't believe the scheme was right for the county's schools.
Dr Povey let on that he was originally going to encourage every school to become an academy, but U-turned on the concept after doing more research. He will now just advise schools on the positives and negatives of them becoming school academies.
Due to Surrey having very good schools compared to other counties according to Ofstead reports, many schools wouldn't want to mess around with a formula that is already working. Many people would now feel a sign of relief knowing the process has now become much more transparent.
