Skilled embroiders from the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) based in Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey created the intricate lace designs on Kate Middleton's dress, vale and shoes envisioned by the designer Sarah Burton.
The team of lace makers was made up of RSN studio staff, former staff, tutors, graduates and current students from the certificate, diploma and foundation degree programmes with the age range from 19-70. The group was initially kept in the dark about what the project was.
The team had to apply a series of lace motifs arranged to fit perfectly on the dress, each motif had to be stitched on with minuscule stitches two to three millimetres apart. Some of the lace motifs were as small as a five pence coin.
