Last week Surrey County Council announced a new service "Gritter Twitter" to keep residents updated on gritting information, traffic updates, weather conditions and road closures across the county. These updates will be sent from the @surreytravel account.

This winter around 110 extra miles of road will be regularly gritted and 40 tonnes of salt has been made available to Surrey's borough and district councils to spread in town centres, so hopefully this year we wont be snowed in or sliding across the street!

Details about Surrey Council's preparations for winter weather including salting routes, grit bin locations and tips for road safety in icy or snowy conditions can be found at surreycc.gov.uk/highwaysinfo.
