Council U-Turns on Community Run Library Plans

Last week the leader of Surrey County Council, David Hodge made an announcement that there will be no 'phase two' of of community run libraries.

This means that Ash, Caterham Hill, Frimley Green, Hersham, Horsley, Knaphill, Lightwater, Shepperton and West Byfleet libraries will not become community run after the 10 pilot libraries are switched over to community volunteer run.

It was also announced that there would be support given to groups taking over the running of the libraries in the pilot scheme including an experienced member of the council's library team being present for at least 20% of the library opening hours.
