Empty stores around Surrey will soon no longer be vacant. Stores that once contained our nation's favourite Woolworths branded items will soon allow you to purchase floors for your homes.
Woolworths administrators have come to an arrangement with the company
Carpetright to hand over a selection of the stores in their "empire" so that a new target audience may be found. One that wishes to buy carpets.
Not all stores have been handed over by administrators to
Carpetright. The new tennants are looking to broaden their place in the market and are choosing areas where they do not have a base as of yet. Two stores that we can confirm are those in
Walton-on-Thames and
East Molesey.
Within
Walton-on-Thames there have been many discussions about what the public would like to see take over Woolworth's old residency. Some have said that they would like to see an old Walton favourite "Beales" (a department store) return after it closed down in 2006 due to the new Heart shopping centre.
Some people would have liked to see a cheap and/or expensive clothes shop, a new toy shop or even in some cases a market for local produce.
What would you like to see become of your local Woolworths? Take part and discuss this with other members on our forum. Or alternatively, do you have an opinion about Carpetright's moving in? Are you happy to see Carpetright coming close to you? Do you still miss good old Woolies?
