Following the recent E coli outbreak at Godstone Farm and Playbarn, Farm Manager Richard Oatway in a statement, said: "All the staff at the farm are very upset about the E coli outbreak, and we hope that all the children make a full and speedy recovery.
We have taken the decision to close the farm until the authorities have finished their investigations. These have been very thorough and are still ongoing. We will not re-open the farm until we are satisfied that we have got to the root of the problem and have put in place suitable control measures."
So far, 12 children aged between 18 months and 10 years have been hospitalised with E coli after visiting the farm. Officials believe 36 cases of the illness, which can lead to fatal kidney failure, have been linked to the farm since the outbreak was traced in August.
Many visitors of the farm have emailed in their support to Richard Oatway and Mrs Flaherty, who have run Godstone Farm since 1980. Richard Oatway said: "Our main priority has always been to make sure that the farm is safe for everyone who comes here to visit. This included our own children and grandchildren. We would really like to thank the many visitors who have emailed us with their support."
